Chinese company Gateron releases some of the most cutting-edge products in the world of keyboard micro-switches. They have a large and diverse line of switches including the Merlot, Ink, CAP and KS-8 switches.
In this post, we’re going to talk about one of them in particular: the X1 Milky yellow.
What exactly makes them so special? And why should you get one before they’re all out?
X1 Milky Yellow is More than a Budget Cherry MX Clone
A lot of reviews for the X1 Milky Yellow have compared this Gateron switch to the well-known Cherry MX. While this may seem like a simple copycat at first glance, many people actually prefer the X1 switch.
Why? Because despite the affordable price, it’s well-lubed, sports a PCB mount 5-pin linear switch, a bright yellow POM stem and a stainless-steel spring. This is a heck of a lot considering the relatively low price.
Also, keep in mind that this Gateron switch has an actuation force of 50±15gf. And, they support two-pin LEDs. This makes them a great choice for fans of RGB lighting as the top shaft is translucent enough to let light shine through.
Ultimately, these KS-3X1 switches are extremely smooth. They are very versatile because they can be a great choice for working or gaming. They have a long lifespan, a satisfying sound and a rewarding feel to them.
If you have the extra cash and want a similar switch, the Durock or JWK linears would be a good recommendation. Consider them a smoother and quieter version of the X1 Milky, albeit for a higher price.
The X1 Milky series is perhaps one of the best budget keyboard switch choices available today. Similar to the KS-3X1, they come in multiple colors, but it is the X1 Milky yellow variant that is especially hard to find, making it more valuable than the others.
This is because sometimes switch or keycap companies will produce a series as a limited test run. This is the case for the X1 Milky Yellow. Take advantage of this opportunity and grab yourself a few of these great switches while they’re hot—and before they’re all gone!
